The Anbernic RG35XXSP is now available in the Philippines. An upgrade to the Anbernic RG35XX with the design of the Game Boy Advance SP. Is the new model worth it for those who want to play more than GBA games? And more importantly, where can you buy it in the Philippines?

The Anbernic RG35XXSP is available at:

    Datablitz – PHP 3,295.00

Anbernic official website – USD 64.99 (Roughly PHP 3,810.07)

    GameCove –  PHP3,699.00

The handheld comes with 64GB internal storage with an option to add on 128GB microSD cards. It’s recommended to get a microSD card as it increases the amount of games you can play reliably. It would cost PHP 535.00 for a 128GB Sandisk Ultra MicroSDXC from DataBlitz.

    Is the upgrade worth it?

Whatever the regular Anbernic RG35XX, the Anbernic RG35XXSP can do too as it’s very similar in terms of internals. The games played can be up to the PSP generation. One major thing you should keep in mind is the lack of a touch screen. If you plan on playing a DS game that’s heavy on the touch screen and you don’t want to use the alternatives to touch-screen function, this might not be for you. The next thing we want to note is the lack of any analog stick. This means if you plan on playing PS1 or Dreamcast games that need analog control, this might also  If you’d like to, the Anbernic RG353V we took a look at may be a better choice as it has two sticks.

So what are the advantages of the console? The clamshell design does a lot to protect the screen. Even without a screen protector, it does a lot in keeping dust and dirt off. And it does automatically shut off when you close it. Next, is the portability. Being able to fold your SP lets you fit in your bag or pocket much more easily. The whole point of a handheld is it being portable, so being able to comfortably put it away is a major boon. Lastly, is the form factor. The GBA SP had an amazing form factor and the Anbernic RG35XXSP adds to that. The additional L2 and R2 buttons are in a much more ergonomic position compared to the previous models, which use the original Game Boy’s form.

Overall, the Anbernic RG35XXSP is a fine addition to Anbernic’s line of handhelds. If you just like the GBA SP and never gotten a retro handheld before, it’s not a bad place to start.
